Adam Parascandola is a rescuer from the Humane Society of the United States. His organization usually visits puppy mills to check on the dogs’ condition. However, this time around, it was a rescue that he’d never forget.
As he walked into a puppy mill in North Carolina, his team found 88 sick puppies living in nightmarish conditions. Every single one of them probably had health issues considering the environment they lived in.
During their inspection, they saw a small shed, which they initially thought to be a storage area. But to their surprise, it was more than that.
It was a room filled with dogs in cages. The moment they walked inside, they were greeted by a horrendous smell.
One of the rescuers even expressed his disappointment. According to him, “they have water, but I mean, that’s not a normal color for water. Green?!”
There, Adam saw a small chihuahua, later named Billy, in a cage. When he went and tried to free the dog, it wouldn’t even do its thing. It became so rusted that it couldn’t be opened right away.
Adam described Billy’s features as a dog who lost almost half of his jaw, severely underweight, and probably suffers from some kind of health problem. When the rescuers asked the vet about the body condition, she replied that Billy had the worst one.
The dedicated rescuer admitted that he was used to such situations whenever they conduct rescues. But at that very moment, he felt a connection to Billy. It even made Adam fall hard when the small pooch laid its head on his shoulders.
With this, he vowed to take care of Billy no matter what. So, he adopted him and brought him to his new home.
They spent their days together, enjoying life, and creating memories. Sadly, Billy died due to an unexpected illness shortly after. Wherever he is now, we hope that he still remembers his last days with Adam.
